Work, Work it Girl, Do Your Thing…

That has to be DJ L’Aimee’s motto.  She sure did her thing last night at DDPP.  Aimee brought the tunes to put a room of especially chatty girls in the mood to wiggle it round and strut our stuff on a runway.   She was made for DJ-ing!  Not only did she bring a kick-ass songlist, but she also brought along a kick-ass dancing friend that added tons of fun to our dance party.

The Right Stuff…

DJ Sarah has the Right Stuff.  She couldn’t even attend DDPP this week, but when the IPOD wouldn’t play with 5 mins to go until session started, she saved the day.  One quick phone call and a miracle kicking song list appeared.  And her list got the booty shaking.  Also, when I heard New Kids on The Block “Right Stuff” (and may have witnessed some amazing muscle memory in our new friend, Amy, as she clearly was pulling out a routine from 7th grade cheerleading to that song) I am convinced I need to see Jordan Knight in reunion!

We had some great new friends join us last week.  They got into the spirit in no time and we all shimmied to the beat.  We had a lighter attendance which left room for leaps and bounds, which ruled.  Still, while the 7 of us shook it just fine, we love to make friends, so hope more people join us this week.

My awesome songlist will make an appearance.  I swear!  I want to earn the DJ title.  It’s happening this week, be there of be square.

You’ve got the right stuff, baby…love the way you turn me on…

-Steph

Don’t Stop Believing…Hold on to that Feeling…

Man, I wish I could hold on to the feeling you get after a rocking session of DDPP and take that fun endorphin high on and on and on…DJ Lindsay delivered the goods last night!  She brought back some old school 90s dance tunes to modern hip music.  My favorite part of the night came when somehow a circle of hip-shaking ladies formed all displaying their best 50s sock-hop moves and a few brave souls jumped in the middle for some solo performance time.  Totally ruled!  DJ Lindsay, you are music maven!

We also had some amazing new friends come last night and they deserve a shout out.  New friend Jessie did the splits and wore an awesome leotard!  Amy proved yet another person at DDPP is cooler than me with her knowledge of indie singer Kate Nash and her sweet groves.  Sara and Angela trucked out from Cleveland Heights to join us and immediately they showed awesome spunk and got right into dancing.  Immediately.  Awesome.  I even think it was one of those two clever cuties that suggested the circle of fun sock-hop style.

DJ Lindsay ended our session with a cool down “Cheers” theme song style…and I have to say, DDPP is turning into my own little safe place, where everybody knows my name…and they’re always glad I came (even with my horrifying dance moves)…We’d love to welcome more into the party…

I wanna go where people know, people are all the same…I wanna go where everyone knows my name,

-Steph

Senorita, I feel for you…

DJ Alice created a song list so nice, we played it twice!  Due to a little technical difficulty, DJ Alice made a return appearance as master of ceremonies.  Man, was I glad she did.  I realized this week that her mix had a little Latin spice and made my hips feel like Shakira.  The hot and saucy stylings matched our mood as the weather turns a little warmer and the studio begins to feel more tropical.  It was awesome!

We had some new friends join us too, and I need to say, they rule!  Genie (I’m spelling it that way, because “she was named after the girl in the bottle” as I was told) spontaneously showed up after randomly meeting me beforehand in Tremont.  How cool is that chick?  Way cool!  And Jen and Billie had the spunky moves that made me more than a little envious of their coolness.  Lindsay brought so much fun, she is DJing this coming week!  She volunteered just that quick to take the music helms!  Yeah!  That girl rules!  The new girls blended right in with the regulars and it was an awesome party party!

I can’t wait for Thursday!  As Justin warns “It feels like something’s heating up…”

-Senorita Steph

Thank You for Being a Friend…Travel Down the Road and Back Again…

Oh yeah she did!  DJ Alice surprised us all with The Golden Girls Theme song as our cool down.  Umm…awesome!  From the Golden Girls surprise to a rocking Beethoven symphony to 80s hair bands mixed in with some Justin Timberlake, Alice pulled out a phenomenal mix.  When I post it, anyone that wasn’t able to make it last night is going to be kicking themselves!  It was a perfect night for our new friend, Cheri to join.  The music was spot-on.

We had another surprise last evening…the Red Bull distributors stopped by and provided us with a case of the delicious stuff.  Imagine riding on those endorphin waves a good session of DDPP provides and then mixing in a little Red Bull after…I’m convinced I won’t be sleeping again until Tuesday, but I feel fine!   For those of you unable to make it, it was hinted they are returning next week too, so you may still have a chance if you come next week.  Who knew that DDPP would get you swag?  It’s sort of like the Oscars but with better music breaks!

And to all my lovely dancing ladies…your heart is true, you’re a pal and a confidant…

Love, Steph

This Ain’t a SCENE, It’s an Arms Race

Dance Dance Party Party Cleveland had a little feature in Cleveland Scene Magazine…please don’t feel pressure to wear the 80s clothes mentioned, we usually leave the flashdance dressing up to only a few.  But by all means, dress that way if you like, we do love it!  We are still on for tonight!  DJ Alice is spinning the tunes.  I can’t wait to display my own bad dancing self!

Dance Till You Drop

Trim the pounds while you get your groove on.

Check your attitude at the door for the weekly Dance Dance Party Party in Tremont. That’s because the 75-minute exercise workout, which happens in a spacious yoga-and-pilates studio, posts three rules: No boys, no booze, and no behind-the-back gossiping. Since the classes began a month ago, gals have been showing up to dance to mixes of tunes from ’80s and ’90s pop acts like Rick Springfield, Duran Duran, and Billy Idol. You’re encouraged to wear leg-warmers and leotards, since the bumping and grinding can turn Flashdance-like, with high kicks and deep knee bends. “Everyone complains about being sore, and it’s a real workout,” says organizer Stephanie Bayer. “It’s important that there’s no judgment here, because there’s some really bad dancing going on. But in the best way.” Class starts at 7:15 tonight at Studio 11, 2337 West 11th Street. Fee is $5. Visit www.ddppcleveland.wordpress.com.

Only in my dreams…as real as it may seem…it was only in my dreams

Only in my dreams can I do the awesome leg sweep I witnessed last night.  Why am I so incapable of break-dancing, while those around me shine with skills?!  Last night’s DDPP was spectacular.  We had seven pretty new faces in addition to several rockin’ regulars!  The dance floor is starting to really fill up.  Not only were our new fabulous friends able to break-it down, they also came with a bag of tricks that seemed designed for DJ Sarah’s second week in the role of bringing the tunes.   Though no one in attendance could tackle “the worm” which would have been a masterful match to Paula’s “Cold-Hearted Snake.”  Man, that girl, Sarah, can really put the music together.  Wait until I post it; it was fantastic.  Next week, our new friend, Alice, is going to prove to us that all our Cleveland based perceptions of native Pittsburghers are way off base as she rocks the house and controls the music.

As always, we love making new friends and hope to meet even more next time…same time and place…Thursdays - 7:15-8:30.

XOXO - Steph
