I’m Holding Out for a Hero…

I’m holding out for a new den mother of Cleveland DDPP.  I will absolutely help you get it going.  We have a strong base, a good relationship with a fantastic studio, and I still want to come and rock out, but I just don’t have it in me to be committed to lead the fun every week and I need someone to help take the wheel.  Anyone out there willing to be my hero?  Please email: ddppcleveland@gmail.com and we can talk through it and see how easy it is to get back up.  It’s time to bring this amazingness back after a restful summer off, but I need someone else to be in charge and lead the fun.  I need a hero!

I’m holding out for a hero…Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need, I need a hero!

Love,

Steph

Summer, summer, summertime…Time to sit back and unwind

Ladies,

We are going on summer vacation.  We will come back in two months, but for now, we are taking our dancing booties outdoors.  Our studio is fantastic, but not air-conditioned.  The weather is just too nice to move and groove inside.  And summertime is a time to “take just a bit of a break from the norm” as the Fresh Prince puts it.  So we are taking a break for a couple of months.  When we come back, we’ll be glowing golden from the sunkissed summer and ready to twist and shake back to normal.

I leave with the words of Will Smith…

Here it is the groove slightly transformed
Just a bit of a break from the norm
Just a little somethin to break the monotony
Of all that hardcore dance that has gotten to be
A little bit out of control its cool to dance
But what about the groove that soothes that moves romance

Give me a soft subtle mix
And if aint broke then dont try to fix it
And think of the summers of the past
Adjust the base and let the alpine blast
Pop in my cd and let me run a rhyme
And put your car on cruise and lay back cause this is summertime

School is out and its a sort of a buzz
A back then I didnt really know what it was
But now I see what have of this
The way that people respond to summer madness
The weather is hot and girls are dressing less
And checking out the fellas to tell em whos best
Riding around in your jeep or your benzos
Or in your nissan stting on lorenzos
Back in philly we be ou in the park
A place called the plateau is where everybody goes
Guys out hunting and girls doing likewise
Honking at the honey in front of you with the light eyes
She turn around to see what you beeping at
Its like the summers a natural afradesiac
And with a pen and pad I compose this rhyme
To hit you and get you equipped for the summer time

Its late in the day and I aint been on the court yet
Hustle to the mall to get me a short set
Yeah I got on sneaks but I need a new pair
Cause basketball courts in the summer got girls there
The temperatures about 88
Hop in the water plug just for old times sake
Break to ya crib change your clothes once more
Cause youre invited to a barbeque thats starting at 4
Sitting with your friends cause yall remincise
About the days growing up and the first person you kiss
And as I think back makes me wonder how
The smell from a grill could spark up nostalgia
All the kids playing out front
Little boys messin round with the girls playing double-dutch
While the djs spinning a tune as the old folks dance at your family
Reunion
Then six oclock rolls around
You just finished wiping your car down
Its time to cruise so you head to the summertime hangout
It looks like a car show
Everybody come lookin real fine
Fresh from the barber shop or fly from the beauty salon
Every moment frontin and maxin
Chillin in the car they spent all day waxin
Leanin to the side but you cant spead through
Two miles an hour so everybody sees you
Theres an air of love and of happiness
And this is the fresh princes DDPP’s new defintion of summer madness

Wear sunscreen.

Hold On…

DDPP is holding on for one more day but with summer we are needing to make some changes as we lose girls to summer drinks and patios.  Last night was lovely, but a smaller crowd than usual.  We wiggled and jiggled and twirled to a fantastic mix.  Check it out…

It’ll be a Perfect Day,

-Steph

I Love, I Love, I Love My Calendar Girls…

Oh sweet calendar girls…

We are switching up our DDPP calendar for the summer months, ladies.  We love the dance party, but we also need to make some time for fun in the sun because this is Cleveland and we don’t get enough of the sun.  So for the summer months, we are adjusting our dancing schedule to every other Thursday.

We will dance on

June 5 and June 19

July 10 and July 24

August 7 and August 21

You know this means we are shaking our booties tonight, right?  So be there or be a square…

Love, Steph

Nothin’ But a Good Time

This last week we had a group of ladies that spent a little too much time watching TV in the 80s.  When the Fame theme song came on, it was as if Debbie Allen were in the studio telling us “You’ve got big dreams? You want fame? Well, fame costs. And right here is where you start paying … in sweat.”  We started sweating and jumping and leaping in all our uncoordinated, free-spirited glory.  It was amazing!

The list of songs we grooved to is below:

Jailhouse Rock – Elvis Presley

Shake Your Love – Debbie Gibson

My Prerogative – Bobby Brown

Fame – Irene Cara

Switch – Will Smith

Ain’t Too Proud to Beg – The Temptations

Laid – James

1 2 3 4 … Tell me that you love me more

I have been very bad in sharing the amazingness of Cleveland DDPP with the world.  And it has been amazing.

Last week, several new spectacular ladies joined us.  If I ever get sick, I want to be taken directly to MetroHealth.  The ladies of MetroHealth that joined our session last week showed such enthusiasm and got right into it, that I want to be taken to any place that encourages passionate people to be on board.  We also had a guest star appearance from Renee, a former dancer, who’s natural sense of rhythm was surpassed by her unnatural ability to lose her mind and control of her dancer’s body whenever she heard a song she loved.  It was phenomenal.

We all behaved like Maniacs.  I admit, when Maniac was played, I may have slid across the floor on my knees ala Flashdance style commanding those that were high knee running to quickly find some water to throw on me to really create the mood.  Seconds later, Sarah, was feeling the groove of that rocking song so much she lost her footing and fell on her behind but turned it in to an air guitar solo played on her back.  That is dedication to the cause.  All the ladies in the house were just as dedicated.  It rocked!  Check out the list, I got to be DJ:

Cecilia – Simon and Garfunkel

Sex and the City Theme Song – Soundtrack

Knock Three Times – Tony Orlando and Dawn

Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) – C & C Music Factory

Whenever, Wherever – Shakira

Only the Good Die Young – Billy Joel

U Can’t Touch This – MC Hammer

Fernado – ABBA

Straight Up – Paula Abdual

Maniac (BOF Flashdance) – Michael Sembello

Dirty Little Secret – All American Rejects

How Far We’ve Come – Matchbox Twenty

Party of Five: Closer to Free – Soundtrack

American Girl – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Complicated Girl – The Bangles

When You Were Young – The Killers

I Believe in a Thing Called Love – The Darkness

Float On – Modest Mouse

1234 – Feist

Hope to see you tonight!  1234, Tell me that you me more.  Sleepless long nights, That is why my youth was for…

-Steph

Work, Work it Girl, Do Your Thing…

That has to be DJ L’Aimee’s motto.  She sure did her thing last night at DDPP.  Aimee brought the tunes to put a room of especially chatty girls in the mood to wiggle it round and strut our stuff on a runway.   She was made for DJ-ing!  Not only did she bring a kick-ass songlist, but she also brought along a kick-ass dancing friend that added tons of fun to our dance party.

Check out the list:

I Know What Boys Like  – The Waitresses

Vacation - The Go-Go’s

Material Girl - Madonna

Candyman - Christina Aguilera

Kiss - Prince

Buttons – (Featuring Big Snoop Dogg) The Pussycat Dolls featuring Big Snoop Dogg
